Innovation Implemented with New Fiber Micro-Site

Michelle MachenMauser News, Industrial Solutions

In September, Mauser Packaging Solutions launched its first fiber micro-site in Odessa, Texas, marking a significant innovative step forward in offering a unique sustainable solution for our customers.
The Odessa facility operates a dedicated fiber drum production line built using decommissioned equipment that was refurbished and upgraded for single-purpose Hot-Flo drum manufacturing. This approach repurposed existing assets from the network and enabled efficient setup without the need for entirely new machinery. Unlike traditional fiber facilities, the Odessa site specializes in producing a single size of Hot-Flo fiber drum.
Fiber Micro-site Overview
  • Located in Odessa, Texas
  • Manufacturing a single SKU Hot-Flo fiber drum
  • Primarily producing for a specific customer but opportunity to provide the same product to other customers
  • Equipped primarily with decommissioned machinery from another Mauser facility

The specialization was made possible through a multi-year contract that was negotiated with a customer by Conner Smith, Vice President of Regional Sales and Blake Johnson, Territory Sales Manager with support from the operations team.

Strategically located on the customer’s property near their main manufacturing facility, the site offers notable benefits—including reduced transportation costs and a lower carbon footprint. While primarily serving the on-site customer, any excess capacity may be used to support other customers with similar product needs.

“This project would not have been possible without the leadership of Fiber Vice President, Drew Myers, and the efforts of Fiber Divisional Engineer Ryan Zellner. Both individuals, along with their teams and the teams in Lloydminster, Alberta; Charlotte, North Carolina; Easton, Pennsylvania; and Chicago, Illinois have worked extremely hard to bring this project to fruition,” commented Ken Fowler, NAIP, Vice President of Operations.

Launch of this micro-site is a testament to the power of collaboration, teamwork, and synergies possible within the Mauser network. The fiber team in Charlotte, North Carolina played a key role in rebuilding decommissioned machinery originally sourced from the Lloydminster, Alberta facility, upgrading it for dedicated use. Their expertise continues to be instrumental as they support the Odessa micro-site by managing essential functions such as ordering and raw material logistics.

While Mauser’s primary fiber manufacturing facilities remain the foundation of our fiber business, micro-sites offer the opportunity to better serve our customers by locating production closer to their operations which reduces transportation costs and supports sustainability efforts. This project, and the potential for similar sites in the future, represents Mauser’s commitment to finding creative solutions to provide our customers with quality products and support sustainability objectives.
