Establishing Safer Workplaces as a Result of EIP/SIP

Michelle MachenBillion Dollar Plan, Mauser News

Mauser Packaging Solutions’ Earning Improvement Program (EIP) and Sales Improvement Program (SIP) are the foundation for optimizing efficiency and positioning the company for growth. While these programs are primarily motivated by financial benefit and increased productivity, safety is a critical factor in all EIP and SIP decisions and improved safety is an important by-product of many EIP projects.

While safety plays critical role in all EIP decisions, many projects are directly related to safety improvements within individual facilities or for the company overall. Two projects being implemented in North America are having a significant impact on our safety culture.

Electrical Disconnects for Injection Molding Machines

NASP Plastics facilities have initiated a major project to install a second, dedicated electrical disconnect for power to hydraulic pumps on over 125 injection molding machines that do not already have one.

“The time savings alone will pay for this investment in short order and result in significant cost savings for the life of the machine. In addition to providing safety for our employees, the overall result will be an increase in machine utilization and production while ensuring compliance with our high standards and applicable safety regulations. This is a prime example on how the protection of our employees can demonstrably improve our business."
- Allen Coppolo, NASP Director of Environmental, Health and Safety
Combining EHS Insight Platforms

NAIP and NASP have initiated a project to combine the online platforms used to share environmental, health and safety (EHS) training, information, policies and reporting. These platforms are called "EHS Insights".

“By combining EHS Insight Platforms, we achieve a significant cost savings and, more importantly, standardization between the business units in our polices and training materials without having to duplicate distribution efforts."
- Rick Capps, NAIP Director of Environmental Health and Safety

Nothing is ever more important than the safety of our people and the safety implications of any potential EIP project carries significant weight in whether or not an idea will be converted into a project. No idea is worth implementing if it will make our employee less safe in the workplace, regardless of the cost savings or productivity increase.

At Mauser Packaging Solutions, we are committed to safety as a core value and to fostering a culture where safety is our most important priority. By investing in safety specific EIP projects and ensuring safety is a critical factor in all EIP decisions, we demonstrate that safety is our greatest interest – above production, quality, costs and service.
