Essential Business Designation Resources Available on MauserNOW

Michelle MachenMauser News

Many states and municipalities in the U.S. are implementing "shelter in place” and “stay at home” orders or imposing curfews that can affect business operations. The U.S. federal government, through the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is also issuing guidance and recommendations related to domestic travel. Under any of these governmental orders or guidance, Mauser Packaging Solutions is designated as an “essential business” or “critical essential infrastructure.” This designation means that the products we make and services we deliver are essential to the economy or to public safety and, therefore, we must continue operating even in the event of a broad-based “shelter in place” order.

Employee Communications are available on a dedicated MauserNOW page to help employees respond to potential inquiries from authorities when traveling to and from work.  Employees who live or work in an area affected by a "shelter in place” order, “stay at home” order, curfew or domestic travel advisory should keep the applicable letter with them as they travel to and from work in areas impacted by these orders or advisories. Information and resources are updated daily as we continue to monitor the situation closely and respond to decisions made by local, state, and federal authorities. Current resources on the page include:

Exemption Certification to Local Curfews

Because Mauser Packaging Solutions participates in and supplies critical infrastructure sectors, employees’ travel to and from any company facility is expressly permitted by local curfew For employees impacted by local curfew orders, this letter can be used to explain the purpose of travel and why it is not prohibited. This communication, available in English and Spanish, should be carried to and from work in preparation for potential inquiries from law enforcement. This letter must be signed by the local plant manager.

Exemption Letters for Shelter in Place, Stay at Home and Business Shut Down Orders

In anticipation of any questions or concerns about continuing our operations in states and municipalities that have implemented shelter in place and stay at home orders, we have prepared letters for employees to reference and to show to local authorities if necessary confirming that Mauser Packaging is permitted (and encouraged) to continue to operate our facilities.

Please use the appropriate employee letter for your geographic location. This communication should be carried with an employee to and from work and in preparation for potential inquiries from law enforcement. Please note that in certain states that have not imposed shelter in place / stay at home orders, counties or municipalities within the state have determined to impose such restrictions. Once a state imposes a shelter in place / stay at home order, letters previously provided for counties and municipalities are no longer necessary and the state level letter should be referenced and used as necessary.

Letters are available in Spanish and English. English letters will be available first followed by the translation.

Exemption Letters for Domestic Travel Advisories and Restrictions

Exemption Letter for Business Travel Impacted by S. Federal Domestic Travel Advisories
The U.S. CDC has an advisory urging residents of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut to refrain from non-essential domestic travel for 14 days. This Domestic Travel Advisory does not apply to employees of critical infrastructure industries. According to the CDC, these employees, including Mauser Packaging Solutions employees, as defined by the Department of Homeland Security, have a special responsibility to maintain normal work schedules.

For employees impacted by the CDC Travel Advisory, we have prepared a letter, available in English and Spanish, that can be used to explain the purpose of travel and why it is not prohibited. Additional letters for other geographic areas will be added as needed. This communication should be carried with the employee to and from work in preparation for potential inquiries from law enforcement. This letter must be signed by the local plant manager.

Exemption Letter for Business Travel Impacted by State Travel Restrictions
Certain states, including Florida, Rhode Island and Texas, have issued orders requiring any person traveling into the state from certain other states (such as Connecticut, Louisiana, New Jersey and New York) and cities (such as Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit and Miami) to self-quarantine for 14 days upon entering the state. In each case, these state orders expressly do not apply to people traveling in connection with commercial activity or critical infrastructure functions. Such travel is both permitted and encouraged by these states.

For employees impacted by these travel restrictions, we have prepared a certification that can be used to explain the purpose of travel and why it is not prohibited. This communication should be carried with the employee to and from work in preparation for potential inquiries from law enforcement. This letter must be signed by the local plant manager.
