Ryan Mott, Accountant at the Homerville, GA facility, developed an intuitive data collection tool that is resulting in process improvements and cost recovery. The tool tracks customer returnable packaging (pallets, top frames, chip board) and identifies cull-out percentages by customer.
The tool enables the sorting vendor to identify what returned packaging is reusable vs what is scrap or in need of repair. Instead of providing customer credit for the full truckload, the tool allows credit to be adjusted based on the content that is reusable. Through additional analysis, discrepancies were discovered in customer credit quantities and dollar amounts.
The findings were presented to the broader NASP Metals division, resulting in support for implementing a similar tracking and reporting tool across all NASP Metals plants.
Ryan’s initiative, analytical expertise, and commitment to continuous improvement have delivered significant value to the organization and established a best-practice model for broader implementation.
